Ringing activities are challenging in their own right but some additional challenges need to be met to accomplish all the activities. While in May the number of birds to be ringed can be the biggest difficulty to face, in March it often happens that you have to deal with the weather. In fact, part of our station's transects were destroyed last week by the exceptional windstorm that swept through the island, requiring prompt restoration and repairing works.
During calm days, ringing activities continued at the typical pace of the period, with the addition of new species to the list of species ringed in the 2023 season, including the first trans-Saharan ones.
Storms aside, spring expresses itself powerfully on the vegetation, during these days, with the characteristic blooms of the Mediterranean maquis.
