Questa mattina, durante i primi turni alle reti, è stato trovato un meraviglioso esemplare di Gufo di Palude, il primo di sempre nella storia della stazione di inanellamento di Ponza!
This morning, during the first netrounds, we found an amazing specimen of Short-eared owl, the first specimen ever caught in the history of the Ponza ringing station!
Il Gufo di Palude (Asio flammeus) è una specie di interesse comunitario, ovvero compreso nell'Allegato I della Direttiva Uccelli della Comunità Europea. Tale elenco lista una serie di specie ornitiche la cui conservazione richiede misure urgenti di conservazione, fra le quali la designazione di Zone di Protezione Speciale (Z.P.S.) per la tutela dei suoi habitat.
Anche se la sua presenza dipende principalmente dalla disponibilità di cibo - micromammiferi, questa specie ha riportato un forte declino principalmente nelle popolazioni dell'Est Europa a causa della perdita di habitat. Le cause maggiori sono da afferirsi all'intensificazione delle pratiche agricolturali e selvicolturali, ma anche all'aumento dei disturbi diretti presso i siti di riproduzione.
The Short-eared owl (Asio flammeus) is a European conservation concern species and it is included in the Annex I of the Birds Directive of the European Commission. Such list reports the bird species which conservation demands for urgent conservation measures, among which there is the istitution of Special Protection Areas (SPA) for the safeguard of its habitats.
Even if its presence is in many respects dependent on food availability, this owl has declined markedly in parts of eastern Europe due to loss of habitat through agricultural intensification and afforestation as well as disturbances at breeding sites.
