Andando avanti con la stagione, si alternano le specie di passaggio, quindi ogni settimana diamo il benvenuto presso la nostra stazione ai primi esemplari della stagione di varie specie che conosciamo già bene a Ponza. Durante questa settimana è toccato aprire le danze della migrazione a cannareccione, cannaiola, pigliamsche, tortora comune, il tanto atteso gruccione e la temuta averla capirossa.
Advancing with the season, different species pass over the island, and therefore every week we welcome at our station the first specimen for the current season of several species we have already caught at Ponza. This last week we had the first great reed warbler, flycatcher, reed warbler, turtle dove, the most wanted beeeater and the feared woodchat shrike.
Perchè temere l'averla? Essendo predatore di insetti (è ghiotta di locuste) e uccelli di piccola taglia, ha un becco con un uncino adunco in punta. Questo, se debitamente serrato sulla tenera pelle dell'estrattore dalle reti o dell'inanellatore, può provocare un dolore acuto, se non addirittura una bella ferita!
Why do we dread the woodchat shrike? Because, being a predator of insects (mainly locusts) and small birds, it has a hooked and pointed beak that can hurt and wound the soft skin of the operator at the nets or the ringer!
